Battle royale

Many players drop onto a large map with no gear, scavenge for weapons and supplies and eliminate each other as the playable area shrinks; the last player or team standing wins.

    Origin

    Brendan Greene's («PlayerUnknown») Battle Royale mod for DayZ, from 2013, introduced the shrinking zone and is the most influential; earlier there were Minecraft mods inspired by The Hunger Games. The name comes from the Japanese film Battle Royale (2000).
